botanical monoprinting with The Junk Girls

Taught by Junk Girl Melissa

Monoprinting is an easy, fun, and interactive medium suitable for all ages and artistic ability. In this class we will introduce you to this form of monoprint making, in which an image is made from a smooth surface coated in acrylic paint, without the use of a press. Each print (or pull) will be unique and one-of-a-kind. We will be using Gelli, a well-known brand that creates (non-animal derived) gelatin-based plates, acrylic paint and use stencils, leaves and other botanical clippings from around Hotel SLO. Students will learn layering techniques to achieve interesting textures and designs on various types of paper to include vintage dictionary pages, maps, book pages, etc. The pieces you create can be used in collage, journaling, card making or matted and framed as a piece of art as a memento of beautiful San Luis Obispo!
This fun and relaxing Workshop is approximately 2.5 hours long. Students will have plenty of time to create and will leave with several prints and a frameable mat. In addition, you will receive a special 15% discount code to purchase your own mono printing materials during the Workshop or in our Store. All supplies are provided - just bring your creativity and willingness to have some fun!

Class fee includes all materials and supplies - you just need to bring your creativity. Note that each class will work on a particular project as indicated in the Class list. Drinks, cocktails, and light bites will be offered at an additional cost.

Valet Parking at the Hotel SLO is included! Just drive up and tell them you’re with the Workshop at the Art Bar.

About The Junk Girls

Jenny and Melissa founded The Junk Girls in 2009, and after 18+ years working for themselves and others like Netflix and eBay, they both wanted more. Their vision for The Junk Girls is to put their collective skill sets together and do something meaningful that would make a difference for both themselves and others.
The Junk Girls was born out of Art Therapy for Jenny and Melissa’s love for all things handmade. They focus on creating art, lighting, furniture, jewelry and home décor, and they strive to create products using recycled, repurposed, vintage, antique and found items from the USA. Their uniquely curated store is located in the historical Muzio’s building at 870 Monterey Street in San Luis Obispo (right around the corner from Hotel SLO).
