After a laid back morning at Hotel SLO (is there any other kind?), head 15 minutes south to Tolosa Winery in the Edna Valley. Edna Valley is the coolest appellation in California, with climate and soil that make it the perfect terroir for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay … and Robin Baggett (a 1973 Cal Poly grad, BTW) makes some of the very best. Settle in for some delicious sips at their stunning tasting room and outdoor patio, with stellar views of the surrounding hills.
Next up is a tasting and lunch at Sextant Wines in the historic Old Edna Townsite building and grounds. Take a seat at the bar to try their award-winning wines, including Zinfandel and Burgundian, Bourdeaux, and Rhone varietals. Then head next door to the deli and choose from artisanal paninis, seasonal salads and quiche, or a charcuterie and cheese board.
After lunch, hop over to Chamisal Vineyards. Chamisal was the first to plant vineyards in the Edna Valley, and they continue to produce vibrant, complex, and intriguing wines with a commitment to sustainability. Settle in and enjoy a flight on one of their lovely patios surrounded by their historic vineyards.
Finish off the day next door at Malene. Where Chamisal is all elegance, its sister property has a kick-back, down-home vibe. They focus on just one type of wine -- Provençal-style Rosés -- which they pour from a decked out vintage Airstream trailer set amidst a gorgeous garden.
